Well folks, I guess some of ya know why ya haven't seen me on here in the last few months. A close encounter of the worse kind with a huge dog and my bike on the evening of April 11th left me with a totally crushed, yep, crushed, not broken, right knee and leg. Three weeks in the hospital, and lots of physical therapy ever since. I got back to work part-time (on the days I don't have PT appointments) two weeks ago, thanks to the kindness of a co-worker who lives a few miles from me. (Still not allowed to drive)

Tomorrow at PT we're scheduled to begin slight weight-bearing exercises on the leg for the first time... Wish me luck! I am SO ready to get out of this *#&$^%! wheelchair!

Had to sell the bike a few weeks ago to help pay bills, and it hurt to see my sweetheart roaring away with somebody else in the saddle. Just as well, because my rehab doctor, who rides, tells me my two-wheel days had BETTER be over, damn it! He doesn't think the leg could support the weight of a bike at a stop, and at this point I'm afraid he's right. Plus, one more whack on this leg, and the consensus is "off it comes." Crap. So, who knows, if I ever dig out of this financial hole, ya just might spot old Mountainman cruising around either on a trike, or a bike with a sidecar. Hey, it could happen!

About a month ago another group to which I belong, the MLF (Motorcycles-Life-Freedom), held a nation-wide rally at Iron Horse Stables in Eureka Springs, about 50 miles from me. Thanks to Goon and his truck, I got to attend the Saturday night party and dinner. Several of the folks rode over on their bikes with Goon and gave us a kewl, snarling motorcycle escort all the way over! I got to meet Jim (the Marine from Tulsa) at the rally, and that was great! Jeez, our two bikes sound(ed) identical!

Anyhow, just wanted to get back in touch and let ya know what's been going on. I'll check in from time-to-time, because like the title of this message says, even without the bike I'm still a Savage at heart!

Be well, folks:
Mountainman
